Week 4

We are in the middle of our 4th week of school. I can’t believe how fast it is going by and how much we are all enjoying this school year. Yesterday Joshua heard someone say “King Alfred” and he said “I know him, remember King Alfred mom, from school”. I really didn’t think he was going to retain all the history we had been reading (King Alfred, Charlemagne, Arabs, Islam, Muhammad...). But obviously he is remembering and thinking about the history topics we are discussing in school.

Joshua just finished nouns and now we are discussing adjectives. He is continuing to work on paragraph editing, vocabulary and spelling. He LOVES math (we are using Saxon this year). Last week we focused on the Spanish words for school items and this week we are reviewing numbers and colors. I tested Joshua on the vocab from last year and he remembers about 70 words. It is fun to see his Spanish vocabulary expanding. In science he is learning about birds and the different human sense and how they work. We have an experiment every Friday (he LOVES experiments). I think that pretty much covers what Joshua has been learning.

Asher finished the letter s and is starting the letter m. The program we are using is very easy for him. He is actually reading three letter short vowel words. So I add a little of my own reading instruction to the curriculum. But it is also really good to go slow and not rush reading instruction. I don’t want him to get frustrated and not like reading. He jumps into whatever we are doing with Joshua as well as doing his own school. He completes the Spanish assignments with Joshua and participates in science experiments.

Elliana is still as sweet as ever. She is talking more and more everyday. We love watching her grow up (she is getting so big!).

I am extremely busy with homeschooling, housework, cooking and training. I spend most mornings at the gym training for next years triathlon (one of my favorite parts of the day). The rest of my day is devoted to taking care of my family (the part of the day that I LOVE).

Aaron is busy with work, college group (he teaches every Sunday) and spending time with us. He is also training for a 50 mile bike ride that he and I will be doing in a few weeks (WOOHOO!).

That is a pretty good update on us, hope you all have a great day!

I will post pictures later today (I hope..)
