Road Trip continued.

One other fun part of the road trip was visiting the small town church that has so much history for our family. Saw some Nelson names around the building, my folks were married here. I have been wanting to take some pictures there for a long time. It is an American Baptist Church. The American Baptists were the Northern part of the Baptist Denomination that broke up over abolition issues. SBC is the other part. American Baptists to this day for better and worse retain in their culture a great desire for social justice going back to their pro-abolition roots. It is a small denomination now but still contains an evangelical presence. It lost much of it's Calvinism during the second great awakening.

Here is the room I wanted to hang out in.
"The Judson Room" Adoniram Judson was an amazing missionary and a strong Calvinist.

Joshua was very impressed with the old church. Asher thought it was fun to explore. I remember doing the same thing there when I was little.

Augustine qoute? Take and read! Ahhh the Gideons!!

1843 Charter Members. Cooooooool.

Nice

Several rooms were named after Baptist Missionaries. This is a painting done by a Baptist missionary while on her way to Africa.

Oil lamp still hanging from a wall?

I have other pictures that are also cool (to me at least) I will have to post more later in an update.

I,too, loved hanging out in this church when I was little. The aisles are incredibly steep, which makes running down them fun (not during a service, of course!) Didn't have enough knowledge then to appreciate the history and wonder about the congregation that has passed through the doors, including many of our great-grandparents and their families.

Mom said many a baby bottle went rolling down under those pews. With modern building techniques it is hard to get the charm of those small old country churches back. Glad I got to go to EWO a few times before the fire. It was pretty cool too. I remember the pews creaking. I love that sound.

Cool Church layout. I like it. I loved playing hide-and-seek in Wildwood. So many good places to hide...
