A great Mother's Day requires three things-
1. lots of good food
2. lots of chocolate (#1 is real food)
3. Activity!!
I could tell it was going to be an awesome Mother's Day when I woke up and my entire family was surrounding our bed and my darling daughter asks "What do you want for breakfast in bed mommy?" Asher even brought me the laptop, they know me well. Momma likes to eat her breakfast while facebooking and reading running blogs :)
I ordered grapes, strawberries, and a Cinnamon Crunch bagel from Panera (the BEST bagels!!).
After a tasty breakfast we headed to church. Due to my back and hip problems I haven't been able to attend in a month. It was so nice to be back.
After a quick lunch (healthy salad and lots of chocolate- #2!!). I headed out on a RUN!!!! I ran 2.21 miles with an 8:14 pace. The total distance was actually 2.5 miles but I walked several times during the run.
I am determined to take it slow and stop when I feel any discomfort. My knee was giving my fits, which I think is due to not running in 2 1/2 weeks and the numbness and nerve issues in my left leg. My stride just seems to be off. As I become more active I'm hoping the numbness and nerve pain will decrease and my stride will improve (another great reason to slowly ease back into all my activities).
I knew going into this run that I would be brought face to face with what I had lost due to my current injury. I knew it would be hard and I knew it would tell me where my training will start. I ran 1 mile before I had to start walking and running Before my back gave way and my hips gave out I was running 23 miles. I lost 22 miles due to my injury and the resulting 2 1/2 weeks of little to no activity. Am I bummed? Of course I am, that is a lot of miles to lose. Am I discouraged, not a bit. I had a great time working my way up to 23 miles and I am excited to do it again!!
After the run I headed out on a road bike ride! It was short (44 minutes), but it was so fun. I was biking against the wind on the way out, which made the ride back extra awesome :)
So I completed #3, and part of #1 and #2. You might be wondering how I define a lot of food and a lot of chocolate....For dinner- STEAKS, potatoes/carrots, and rolls (large amounts of all three!). And to finish #2- warm, gooey pizookies!!!
It was the best Mother's Day I could ask for :)
I hope you all had a great Mother's Day!!!
