I have been training for triathlons for about 4 years. I thoroughly enjoy working out and it is a lot of fun to compete. But it is also a very "me" centered sport. I do not want this hobby to be all about me. I want to use my enthusiasm and abilities to help others. Aaron and I have had our hearts broken for orphans. We desperately want to help children who have no one. So I am combining our heart for orphans and my desire to use my training to help others. In July I will be competing in an Olympic distance triathlon. It consists of a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and a 10 km run. All of my past triathlons have been sprint distances (500km swim, 40km bike and 5km run). This will be a hard event for me. What will help keep me motivated and inspired is that I am competing to raise money for AS OUR OWN.
As Our Own is a Christ-based, community-driven movement in India that rescues vulnerable children from certain enslavement and exploitation, caring for them as our own.
