Our First Dissection :)

Most of you know that I majored in Biology and minored in Human Anatomy in college. During my years of study I dissected numerous animals and plants (Sheep eye, cow eye, pig, frogs, insects, water creatures, rat, and of course the cat. I am sure there were more but I am old and can't remember them all.). I was even able to see a cadaver! Which was actually pretty gross as it was very old.

The only dissections that really bothered me were the frogs. All the other animals were dead when you got them. I actually had to kill the frogs right before we did experiments using their leg muscles. So that was a little hard. Oh and the rat..it was still warm when we took out its kidney. Apparently they stepped out into the hall, broke its neck, and then gave it to us (that was so creepy!).

Anyway, enough about my years of college excitement :) During our science lesson this week I realized that both boys were learning about fish. The perfect opportunity for our first dissection. It wasn't as cool as I wanted it to be. Apparently Meijer guts the fish before you buy them. But it was really neat. Joshua and Asher were able to see the lateral line, scales, gills (from the inside!), operculum, fins and the eye. Here are a few pictures of our first ever dissection :)
