My challenge for the coming year :)

As you all know last April I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Elliana. For the last twelve months I have been working hard to get off the baby weight and get back in shape. I have lost a total of 61 pounds (Woo Hoo). I am in good shape and I am ready for my next challenge!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me…

That is my motto for the coming year. I have taken on a personal challenge. I am going to complete a triathlon next June. You may have noticed that I used the word “complete” instead of “compete”. My goal is to cross the finish line.

I have begun the training process and I LOVE it. I get up at 4:45 am and I hit the gym 6 mornings a week :) This allows me to get back home before the kids get up in the morning. I will not allow my working out to get in the way of my job as a wife and mother. If that happens I will gladly let this dream die :)

The triathlon I am going to “complete” is the Evergreen Triathlon. It includes a 500 m swim, 40 K bike ride and a 5 K run. The bike ride will be cake. The 5 K will be challenging but definitely doable (is that a real word :). The 500 m swim on the other hand will be my biggest challenge.

Ten laps in the swimming pool equals 500 m. That’s not a terrible distance for someone who has average swimming abilities. I on the other hand stink at swimming. I can swim down the length of the pool once (that is ½ a lap!!). So I basically have no skills in this area. I can dog paddle great :) and I can swim a little. But not well enough to swim 10 laps consecutively. In order to prepare myself to complete the 500 m without drowning I am going to take swimming lessons (with adults, not kids:) and I am going to practice A LOT.

I am VERY excited and I am LOVING the training aspect (even the hour of swimming laps!). So I look forward to seeing what the year holds for me.

So if you see me and I look tired, you now know why :)
