Pretzel Toffee

I've heard of saltine toffee for years and never tried it (sounded a little nasty to me).  I decided to tweak it a bit and substitute the saltines with pretzels.  The result was AWESOME!  A yummy easy treat :)

Pretzel Toffee
Broken pretzels (not crushed)
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar (I used light, but dark would be even better)
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Put pretzels in a Ziploc type bag, seal the top, and use a rolling pin to gently break apart the pretzels.
  3. Spread pretzels on the bottom of a 9x13 pan.  Enough to cover the bottom and a little more on top of that layer.
  4. Combine sugar and butter in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Boil for about 3 minutes.
  5. Immediately pour over pretzels.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips (spread the chocolate once it starts to melt).
