Bribery

When attempting to stretch my children past a point of comfort I find bribery works wonders. Joshua is studying World War I in history and I decided to combine our weekly map work with this topic.
.

This week the boys are learning 20 countries and their capitals. Most of these countries play some role in World War I. To give them a little incentive I announced that a Willy Wonka chocolate bar would be rewarded to the individuals who could recite all 20 countries and capitals. Joshua promptly memorized all 20. Asher has been working hard to catch up with Joshua and attain said candy.
.

To help Asher I decided to use an elaborately built train track that he and Joshua spent an hour constructing to help solidify these locations to memory. Each capital and country was written on a post-it and then placed along the train line. Now the trains are stopping in the capitals of all twenty countries.

I'm not sure that I would call that bribery. It's more like a reward system. :) I love your creative thinking. You certainly make learning fun! :)
